A Press and Photo Shoot day was held Monday 20 February at the Coventry Transport Museum, Coventry, to Launch the 3,400km Tour of Italy Cycle Ride to be ridden by Coventry Multi World Masters Cycling Champion –Mick Ives.
At the Launch Mick was able to explain his reasons for, what he described as his greatest cycling challenge to date, considering he will be 78 in August this year. Mick has secured the sponsorship backing of Jewson, Polypipe and McCann, his 3 main sponsors for his M.I.Race Team. The Charities chosen are Bernados, Rainbow Children’s Hospice, Padraic Sweeney Kidney Research and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice all of whom were represented at the launch. The Introductions were made by Adam Dent –Advent Media –a former Editor of Coventry Telegraph and a very keen cyclist himself. Members of the Public and from Micks own cycling team M.I.Racing were also in attendance.
Coventry Transport Museum includes one of the finest collection of Cycles in the world including 3 owned my Mick himself. One of them being the Cycle he used in 2005 for his Tour Ride, a Fuji cycle fitted with the first Roto Chainsets that had 2 cams fitted to the crank arm giving a round chain ring, an elliptical performance was on display at the Launch. Mick also won 1 of his World Masters Cyclo Cross Championships using this system, he was the first U.K.Rider to use Roto systems.
If the Tour ride is successful, Mick hope to do talks and presentations around the U.K., backed by Photos and Film. Watch this space.
